Introduction: Hatrick purchased 3 Maori canoes after the introduction of the Taumarunui service. The un-powered canoes were used when the river was too low for the motor canoes to reach Taumarunui. They would send the canoe down far enough for a motor canoe or motor vessel to reach it and change loads. The canoes were manned by Maori Crews and Hatricks Top run Manager described the canoes as having 'Maori Motors'! |
