The MV Wairua was launched onto the Whanganui River on 3rd March 2006. The vessel had it's upper superstructure removed so it could fit out of the shed it was restored in, this is to be fitted at the Wairua's mooring, not far upstream from the Waimarie. The Wairua is to be used for specialist trips for small groups. For the Wairua's Info page, click HERE
The MV Ongarue has been on static display in Pipiriki since 1984 and has been left in a poor state and closed to the public since 1997. After deteriorating further, DoC finally gifted it to the Whanganui Riverboat Restoration & Navigation Trust on the 4th May 2005. The Ongarue was shifted the next day and is now housed in the Whanganui Riverboat Centre Museum as an exhibit, being preserved for the future 'round two' of restoration.
The MV Otunui is now out of service. It was badly damaged by fire in April 2003, all that remains is the hull and a few pieces of burnt wood and twisted metal. Owners Dave & Ang Kilmister, had recently completed a NZ$10,000 full refit of the vessel taking four months and on completion the business had proved very popular.
