The M.V. Waireka was launched on the Whanganui River in 1908, after arriving from Glasgow in sections and being assembled in Wanganui. The Waireka is one of the Hatrick fleet's original survivors which served the top section of the river between the Houseboat and Taumarunui. She was later sold to a private owner and began a career as a historic riverboat in Wanganui changing hands many times until she was moved to the Waikato River in Taupo. She has needed a rebuild for quite some time and this has now been completed. The Waireka was launched back onto the Waikato River on the 3rd October 2005. The second and third row of photos below were taken 16th May 2004. Click HERE to see the Waireka's information page. |
